THE PRACTICE

PREPARE FOR CLASS
- Stop eating 3 hours before your class. It’s best to practice on an empty stomach.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you're taking a hot yoga class.
- Wear clean, stretchy clothing that moves with you. Gym clothes will do the trick.
- You must wear a mask at all times. This is required by NY State guidelines. Gaiters and bandanas are inadequate.
- Bring your own mats and props if possible. We may not be able to rent them to you due to the coronavirus.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE
- Arrive 15 minutes before your class so we can check you in and show you around.
- Parking spots can be hard to find. Budget plenty of time if you are driving.
- Public transportation is best. Take the E/F train to Kew Gardens — Union Turnpike.
- Turn off phones or silence them. Take all valuables into the practice room with you.
- Speak softly. Silence is golden.
- If you arrive late, wait until after the Om to join the class.
DURING CLASS
- Tell your teacher if you are working through injuries, limitations or other conditions.
- Take a spot near the front so you can see and hear the teacher clearly.
- Ask questions if you're confused.
- Request modifications and use props if a pose is too difficult.
- Don't compare yourself to others. It’s not a competition. It's OK if you don't know many of the poses.
- Use your best effort in each pose and practice without any expectations. Your class will be much more enjoyable.
- Learn the difference between discomfort (good) and pain (bad). Long, deep breaths will help you hold the pose.
- Take a child's pose or lie down if you feel exhausted or lightheaded.
END OF CLASS
- - Don't skip out on savanna (corpse pose). It's the best part of the practice, when we recharge our batteries.
- Wash your hands and clean and disinfect all mats and props when class is over.
- If you brought a change of clothes, there are changing stalls in the studio but no showers.
- Give yourself a hug for a job well done.
- Sign up for your next class on our website or the My Living Yoga mobile app.
